Tamarindo fishing is known as some of the hottest fishing around and not just in Costa Rica but world wide. Tamarindo fishing grounds are rich with numerous species of popular marine resources that draw thousands of anglers to this region each year. Many Tamarindo fishing charter Captains in the region practice the catch and release method which preserves these beautiful sea creatures for years to come thus keeping the fishing in Tamarindo good for future generations. Although as the Captain says you are allowed to keep what you want which you can bring back and have cooked at the local restuarant for a delicious seafood dinner. We practice "Catch and Release" for all Costa Rica billfish.

Tamarindo is located in northwestern Costa Rica in the Guanacaste fishing region. It includes other fishing spots like Papagayo and Coco Beach areas. Tamarindo waters abound with smaller fish species or baitfish like many types of jacks and other small fish that the larger billfish feed on. Like the marlin pictured above the Tamarindo fishing grounds offer anglers a chance to catch the biggest fish of a lifetime, even for the most inexperienced angler.
Tamarindo Deep Sea Fishing
Tamarindo is situated in a spot that places it right alongside of some very deep water. Inshore these waters run about 25 fathoms deep where you can catch many different bottom fishing species including the anglers favorite, the
roosterfish which can easily top 50 pounds.
Then there is the Tamarindo deep sea fishing this region is known for. The deep waters are about a 20 minute boat ride offshore to the continental shelf where the waters are some 1200 fathoms deep or about five thousand feet deep, almost a mile deep. This is the place pelagic species call home.
Sportfish like blue marlin, sailfish, and wahoo feed in these waters at all different levels of the water column from the surface where you will be fishing to as deep as 400 or 500 feet deep. Tamarindo deep sea fishing offers anglers a chance at catching species that include dorado, wahoo, sailfish, tuna, and of course blue marlin.
Tamarindo Marlin Fishing
Tamarindo marlin fishing gets really exciting as you get ready to catch a fish that will test you and make you use any and all sport fishing skills you may possess to battle this fish to the boat. A large
blue marlin or what some anglers call "the man in a blue suit" will do everything he can to break free. A fish of this caliber can sometimes take an hour or more to get to the boat. He will make reel screaming runs down deep and then return to the surface to make acrobatic leaps in mid air in an all out effort to throw the hook from his mouth in order to regain his freedom.
As a determined angler you will also do everything in your power to beat the fish at his own game and work him to the boat. That means not paying attention to your aching back muscles and burning arm muscles that feel like they can not even make one more turn of the reel. Plus you must keep your emotions in check so you can concentrate on wearing this fish down and bring him finally to the boat.
